Broadcasting Commission gets an injunction to among other things bar Flow from acquiring any further cable companies

The Supreme Court today granted an injunction baring Columbus Communications owners of Flow Jamaica from further acquiring the assets of Entertainment System.

The move comes against concerns  being raised about the risk of a monopoly developing in the cable sector following the recent acquisition of Entertainment Systems by Flow Jamaica.

The injunction also bars Flow from making any adjustments to fees or services offered to the customers of Entertainment systems.

Flow has also been barred from acquiring any other cable companies.

The injunction was granted at 2:15 this afternoon and lasts for 14 days, at the end of this period the parties will return to court for a hearing on the matter.

Entertainment system offers service to some 13 communities in Kingston, including some of the most affluent neighbourhoods - Mona, Beverley Hills, Hope Pastures, Barbican, Constant Spring, Norbrook, Half-Way Tree, Trafalgar Park, New Kingston, Hope Tavern, August Town, Cherry Gardens, and Stony Hill.

Flow Jamaica's acquisition of Entertainment System is the eighth such in recent times.
