Single Suspect in Wake Shooting in Banks, Clarendon

Suspect on police most wanted list being sought for shooting of 7 persons at wake in Clarendon

A man on the island's most wanted list has been fingered as the main suspect in last week's shooting of seven persons at a wake in Banks, Clarendon.

Two persons were killed in the attack.

Superintendent Radcliffe Lewis of the May Pen Police says 26 year old Addif Washington who is known to frequent addresses in Clarendon and Manchester is being sought by the police.
The police say the shooting up of the wake in Banks is a reprisal for a double murder last December.

Last Thursday night's shooting has also re-ignited calls for the reestablishment of a police station in nearby Exeter, which Commissioner of Police, Hardley Lewin has downgraded to a police post.

Commissioner Lewin says the station has been rendered useless following the passage of Hurricane Dean in August and as such, he will not reverse his decision to scale down operations there.

In the meantime fearful of possible reprisals by drug lords, the Clarendon Police are calling on persons who removed 400 pounds of marijuana from the site of a plane crash near Mitchell Town on the weekend to take the drugs in to the police.

Speaking with our newsroom, Head of the Clarendon Police, Superintendent Radcliffe Lewis, said information gathered suggests that known men in the area removed the ganja from the crash site to express their disapproval of a deal taking place without their knowledge or involvement.

He says he is calling on these persons to bring the weed to the police as there are already talks of the drug dealers planning reprisals for their stolen merchandise.

The Superintendent says police led raids in communities near the crash site have not yielded any suspects or the stolen ganja.

Early Sunday morning, residents of Salt River who reported seeing smoke coming from the Swamp in Mitchell Town, called the police.

On their arrival, a twin engine plane was seen in flames and several men running away from the site with parcels, some of which fell.

The men escaped in the swamp.

Upon further investigation, the police retrieved 16 parcels amounting to more than 30 kilograms of compressed ganja.

The police believe the plane was lit after it developed mechanical problems and crashed while transporting the ganja off the island.
