Police raid the home of a relative of Kern Spencer - as the light bulb investigation continues....

A joint military and police team raided a house belonging to a relative of embattled Member of Parliament for North East St. Elizabeth, Kern Spencer, this morning.

Speaking with our newsroom, Director of Communications, Karl Angel said while he could confirm that the raid was carried out, he was not at privilege to divulge further details on the matter.

He, however, did concede that the search of the St. Elizabeth dwelling was carried out as part of the investigation being undertaken by the Organised Crime Investigation Division, OCID, into the multi-million dollar Cuban Light Bulb Programme, for which Mr. Spencer has been arrested and charged.

Mr. Spencer, his former Personal Assistant and the owner of the company which distributed the bulbs were slapped with a number of fraud, corruption and money laundering charges on Tuesday, following a probe undertaken by the OCID.
Former State Minister Kern Spencer and one of his co-accused Coleen Wright remain behind bars at this time.

Meanwhile, the third person charged by police in their investigation of abnormalities in the execution of government's Cuban Light Bulb Programme, businessman Rodney King secured his release from jail today.

All three were offered bail yesterday but had to spend another night in jail following complications faced in completing the requisite bail procedure.

It was expected that the three would have been released today.

However, Spencer and Wright will spend their third night in jail after being arrested Tuesday night.

Yesterday afternoon Kern Spencer and Rodney Chin were each granted 10 million dollars bail, while Mr. Spencer's former personal Assistant Coleen Wright was granted 5 million dollars bail.

They were also ordered to surrender their travel documents by the judge in the Half Way Tree Resident Magistrate's Court.

They are all slated to return to court on March 26.
