Many persons turn up to pay their tax
,
Rush on tax offices as persons try to meet the 5 o'clock deadline to file their annual returns...

Scores of persons have turned up at the offices of the Inland Revenues Department since morning, to file their Annual Income Tax Return for 2007 and their Declaration of Estimated Income and Tax Payable for 2008.

Companies, self-employed persons, partnerships, organisations and employed persons with other sources of income were given until the close of business today to file their returns, as this year the customary March 15 due date fell on the weekend.

Up to news time a number of tax offices were crowded, and Director of Public Relations at the Tax Administration Services Department, Merris Haughton says she expects more offices to get busy later in the afternoon.

Ms. Haughton had disclosed to Newstalk 93fm earlier that a number of measures were being put in place to manage the expected influx of people today.

The Department is reminding individuals and business organisations that today's cut-off time is 5:00 p.m.

According to Ms. Haughton this closing period will be observed by all Inland Revenue Departments islandwide.
