Colonel Trevor McMillan says new crime plan working
,
The police have had major success in the last six weeks in their crime fighting efforts within areas considered as hot spot communities.

Minister of National Security, Colonel Trevor McMillan, who was speaking on the Breakfast Club this morning, said the police have been successful in collecting evidence to build cases against the perpetrators of crime in these areas.

While refusing to elaborate on these efforts, Minister McMillan added that both the Jamaica Defence Force and the Jamaica Constabulary Force have joined together and have produced results.

Meanwhile, with regard to the signing of peace treaties between warring factions in innercity communities, the Minister said he was not involved but would accept measures that would bring calm to these areas and prevent murders.

Just last week, area leaders in the communities of Jungle 12, Goldsmith Villa, Colour Red, River, Vietnam and Judgement Yard in August Town signed a five year peace treaty.

Minister McMillan said he would not yet dismiss these measures, if they help to curtail crime.

Meanwhile, Minister McMillan is adamant that the security Forces will not stop and will not allow criminal elements to take over the country.

He was making reference to a robbery which took place at the St Andrew facilities of the Salvation Army School for the Blind and Visually Handicapped early yesterday morning.

While condemning the incident, the National Security Minister said he could only describe it as 'disgusting'.

According to reports, three masked gunmen entered the Salvation Army's compound, and robbed 39 members of an overseas missionary, who were in their sleeping quarters.

The team was robbed of cash, cellular phones and other valuables.

The students were in the island for a week to carry out missionary and Evangelical work.

They are attached to the United States based Christian organisation, Adventures in Missions.
