Last lap for Tax Amnesty
9 October 2008 , 3:06pm
The Tax Administration Department is reminding delinquent tax payers that there are only a few weeks left for business persons and individuals who owe back taxes to take advantage of the Government’s tax amnesty which comes to an end on October 31.

Outstanding payments made during this period, which is the last month of the six-month long tax amnesty, will get a 70 percent waiver on interest and penalties.

Persons who still have amounts outstanding for Property Tax, General Consumption Tax , Special Consumption Tax, Contractors Levy, Income Tax, Education Tax, Transfer Tax, Stamp Duty, and Asset Tax are urged to pay the outstanding principal.

Persons who are not able to settle all their outstanding amounts during this period are encouraged to come in and pay on their account and enter into a payment schedule with the Collector of taxes, to clear the balance.

Following the close of the tax amnesty, the Tax Administration will be embarking on a comprehensive Tax Compliance Drive.

Taxpayers who fail to use the period of the tax amnesty to settle their tax affairs will come in for greater scrutiny by the tax authorities, as they move swiftly to ensure greater compliance.

Street surveys, audits, compliance and other collection activities will be stepped up during the months leading up to the end of the 2008-2009 Fiscal year.
