A journalist by training, he has
written special features for the Sunday Herald Newspaper of Jamaica and has
been a guest columnist for the Wire and Guardian Newspaper of Trinidad and Tobago where he
focused on social development issues of the Caribbean region.
These include writing
investigative features from an experiential perspective. For instance ‘Inner
City Justice System’, ‘The Making of a Don’, ‘Don of All Dons and two series
entitled ‘Voices from the Grassroots’ and ‘Jamaican Rude Bwoy’.
His endeavor in Broadcast
journalism includes reporting and producing for Nationwide News Network as well
as presenting and producing Roots FMs flagship morning programme- Morning
Roots.
V.B holds a
certificate in Broadcast Journalism from The Institute of Broadcasting Careers
(Trinidad) as well as a liberal arts degree
(BA) in History and International Relations from the University of the West
Indies.
He has received several awards and
recognition for his contribution to youth development in some of Jamaica’s
toughest inner-city communities.
These include being awarded in Brussels, Belgium in 2001
by United Nations Non Government Organization, The World Association of Former
UN Interns and Fellows.
In 1997 he was awarded the
University of the West Indies Guild of Students award for his service
(1996-1997) to student government as vice-president of the Guild of Students.
He has been featured in some of Jamaica’s major
newspapers, radio and television programmes. This includes being interviewed
twice [July 2001 and January 2006] by Jamaica’s longest
running personality programme [Profile] with veteran journalist Ian Boyne.
