Monday:
The 21 century Band, led by Dion Parson and Ron Blake, both of St Thomas, Virgin Islands, have found a way to meld their Caribbean roots-calypso, reggae, with jazz in seamless fashion. Eastern Standard Time, a Washington based , ska group live up to their name. Tuesday:
Big sound tenor sax, Scott Hamilton , explores the tradition of the soul jazz format of tenor saxophone and organ. The Stan Kenton Orchestra, sketches some standards.
Wednesday:
Female Japanese pianist, Hiromi, combines brilliant piano skill, with audacious, category defying interpretations of classic songs. Backed by her group Sonicbloom, they craft a mix of jazz and fusion. Eljuri, a singer from Ecuador, has Sly and Robbie stoking her latin fire.
Thursday:
“The Idan Raichel Project, a mesmerizing fusion of the music of Israel, Ethiopia, Arab, Yemenite, and the Caribbean. Meta and the Cornerstones, a New York based reggae/world music group, has a new and powerful voice in its lead singer,Meta who hails from Senegal .
Friday:Malian, guitarist, singer, Habib Koite’s music “Afriki” brings his country diverse musical styles into a oneness. The Lion Of Zimbabwe, Thomas Mapfumo’s album, “Rise Up” is a call to arms.
